EAST JOHNSON STREET KL Engineering was the prime consultant for the reconstruction of an existing 2-lane urban section of East Johnson Street in the City of Madison. This project required extensive coordination and communication with various City departments and adjacent property owners for storm and sanitary sewer issues. A key issue for this project was a tight time schedule. Design challenges included vertical alignment, stormwater drainage, and the need for public involvement. Specific engineering issues consisted of storm sewer design, poor soil conditions, preservation of mature trees along the roadway, and matching over 100 existing driveway profiles. KL Engineering completed all aspects of the project including survey, plan development, intersection modifications, drainage and storm sewer design, environmental documentation, public involvement, and PS&E submittal. The firm recommended use of a geotextile fabric to solve the soil condition issues. KL Engineering conducted regular progress meetings with the City of Madison and DOT, successfully avoiding last-minute revisions. The firm delivered the plans ahead of schedule. This project was constructed in 1997. Cost: $1.2 million. Back to Portfolio |
