USH 12, STH 78 - CTH KP

KL Engineering was the design consultant, in a consortium with three other consultants, for design of a USH 12 segment in northwestern Dane County. The segment expanded 4.5 miles of USH 12 from a two-lane rural roadway to a four-lane expressway. Extensive coordination with WISDOT, DNR, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, property owners and local agencies was required to minimize impacts and manage access for this expressway conversion project. Preliminary structure investigations and design of rerouting of the waterway channel for construction of two structures over Roxbury Creek were part of the project design.

The design also included several rural intersections, a drainage analysis, traffic signals, park and ride lot, staged construction, right-of-way plat, an off-road bike path, and a Conceptual Constructability and Traffic Control Plan for the entire corridor. KL Engineering prepared a traffic analysis of 8 intersections along the 18-mile project corridor to recommend geometric layouts.

KL Engineering completed the construction management of the STH 78 to CTH KP portion of the project. Construction of this $9.4 million dollar project began in September 2003 as part of the expansion of USH 12 from Sauk City to Middleton.
